Pandu — Privacy Policy

Summary

Pandu has no accounts, no ads and no analytics. We do not run a server that stores your data. To work, the app sends some data directly from your phone to map, search and routing providers.

What the app uses

• Location (precise). Used on your device to show your position, match it to the road and give turn-by-turn guidance. Pandu asks for "While Using" access; on iPhone you may choose "Always" so guidance continues with the screen off. On Android a foreground notification is shown while navigating. Location is used only while you are navigating or viewing the map.
• Destination searches. The text you type is sent to the search provider (Photon / OpenStreetMap, or TomTom when enabled).
• Routes. Your start and destination coordinates are sent to the routing provider (OSRM / OpenStreetMap, or TomTom when enabled) to calculate a route. During rerouting your current coordinates are sent again.
• Map tiles. Your device requests map images from the tile provider (Esri, or Stadia Maps when enabled). The tile requests reveal the map area you are viewing and your IP address.
• Spoken directions. Generated on your device with the system text-to-speech voices.

What is stored on your device

Your settings (for example units, voice and map style) are stored locally. Uninstalling the app removes them. We do not receive them.

Third parties

Search, routing and map providers receive the requests described above and handle them under their own policies: Komoot Photon, the OSRM project, TomTom, Esri and Stadia Maps. We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or track you across apps and websites. We do not link these requests to an identity because Pandu has no accounts.

Security and retention

Requests use HTTPS. Pandu keeps no server-side copy of your location or searches, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete. Provider retention follows their policies.

Children

Pandu is a driving app and is not directed at children under 13.

Your choices

You can change or revoke location permission in your phone settings at any time; navigation will not work without it.
